TRENDING DOOR HARDWARE IN 2023

If you embarked on the exciting journey of building a house this year, you have probably already discovered just how many decisions you need make during your prestart consultations.

Perhaps you have also strolled through the beautiful Home Collective showroom to get inspired, or started a collection of ideas?

You have probably dedicated a lot of time looking at floor samples, kitchen tapware or joinery. We understand, they are a defining factor of your personal style. What about the humble door hardware? Choosing hardware can be overwhelming, with the plethora of styles and finishes available on the market. It’s easy to get lost.

Home Collective’s door hardware supplier, Gainsborough, is here to show you the best door hardware finishes that are trending in WA display homes and showrooms this year, proving the impact door furniture can have on your future home and personal style.

Door hardware staples - silver and matt black finishes

Silver and black finishes are Gainsborough’s most popular hardware finishes due to flexibility and understated elegance they offer.

Though Brushed Satin Chrome, Satin Chrome and Bright Chrome and Stainless Steel finishes are seemingly alike, they couldn’t be any more different! Unlike chrome finishes that are plated on hardware’s surface, often made from solid zinc, stainless steel is raw material that has been buffed, cleaned and polished to achieve a desired look.

These silver finishes are characterised by their lustrous look with slight blue undertones, that adds brilliance and shine to many design styles, in both dark and light palettes. In 2023 we see them matched with crisp colours, layers of blue and costal interiors.

With regards to matt black hardware, “’everything that needs to be said has already been said. Over the last decade matt black earned its position as a leading finish in door hardware amongst equally timeless chrome and stainless steel. It is here to stay, having become a permanent part of the door hardware offer.

It is sleek, distinct, and expressive, immersing any space in style with a modern edge. Matt black’s dominant nature will turn clear-cut farmhouse or Hamptons looks into a wonderfully complex visual exercise of layering textures, shapes and contrasts.

At Home Collective you can explore internal levers, deadbolts and flush pulls from Gainsborough Avant, Choice, Neue, TradePro Collections in matt black and chrome finishes as well as their Trilock Omni back to back pull handle entrance set in stainless steel.

New-ish kids on the block - satin graphite & satin brass

Introduced in 2021, satin graphite and satin brass finishes, part of Gainsborough’s Avant Collection of premium internal levers, have been trending at a different pace.

Electroplated brass quickly became the leading finish in the same year, with majority of contestants of ‘The Block’ show pairing it with matching tapware, in interiors filled with soothing white, subdued sage or blush pink décor. A contemporary Australian look was once again redefined – and refined.

Fast forward to now, interior designers experiment with brass hardware more than ever, and apply it in variety of styles, from Scandinavian to boho. Gainsborough satin brass finish is one that is easy to work with, no matter the budget or the tier of your prestart selections. It will add warmth and elegance to premium materials such as natural timbers and travertine, but it will also do wonders in simpler spaces, with more affordable selections. Think humble mud rooms, laundries or hallways.

In 2023, Satin Graphite (or gunmetal) finish is finally gaining traction. Gainsborough Hardware experts cannot reveal details yet, but rest assured that you will be seeing more of satin graphite door hardware this year!

Satin Graphite’s deep charcoal tones and untextured smooth finish exude confidence and a moody quality that pairs well with mixed metals, linens, and dark timber. Make sure to give this finish a go if you love the understated japandi interiors but want to elevate them with a bolder design statement and a bit of an edge.

Tip: When selecting the right finish for your design project, make sure to view it in natural light to see if they complement other materials.

At the Home Collective in Leederville, you can view the stylish Avant Alba levers in both finishes.

Best kept secret - aged brushed copper

Our friends at Gainsborough have one more, very special finish up their sleeve, that you might want to consider for your new project, and we think you will like it!

A brushed, textured finish with warm red and pinkish undertones – Aged Brushed Copper – brings depth and a distinct aesthetic – a tribute to hardware of the yesteryear, that will elevate a contemporary, rustic or traditional interior. The rich tones of brushed copper will also offset warm greens and blues of your styling and will pair beautifully with WA’s most celebrated stone – the earthy limestone.
