Artist Spotlight: Eirian Chapman

The most wonderful time of year has arrived at Home Collective, and this year we wanted to celebrate it with something as magical as the season itself. We collaborated with Melbourne-based illustrator and graphic designer Eirian Chapman to bring an original window installation to life across our spaces in Leederville and Bunbury, and the result is pure festive joy.

The Work

Eirian’s concept for the installation is as joyful as the season itself. Inspired by the magic of a crystal snow globe, the large windows of Home Collective became the perfect canvas. Imagine a snow globe shaken by a child, with festive elements gently and slowly falling to the corners: crackers, lollies, bells, bows, and trees nestling against each other in an explosion of colour, pattern, and festive cheer.

What makes the installation so captivating is the scale. Baubles, ribbons, and candy canes, objects small by nature, have been blown up to magnificent proportions, drawing attention to the decorative and wonderful shapes they create as a pattern. The experience shifts as you move closer and further away, up close the detail is extraordinary, and from across the road the full holiday feeling washes over you. It is playful, impactful and impossible to walk past without smiling.

In Eirian's Own Words

“Creating a Christmas wonderland for the Home Collective windows drew me to research festive ornamentation and symbolism of everyone’s favourite holiday season. The large glass windows that showcase Home Collective reminded me of a crystal snow globe sitting atop a mantel. I envisioned the showrooms as a crystal snow globe after it has been shaken by a child and all the Christmas motifs gently and slowly falling to the corners of the windows; the crackers, lollies, bells, bows and Christmas trees gently nestling against each other in an explosion of colour pattern and festive cheer. It was fun to illustrate the Christmas elements like baubles, ribbons and candy canes that are small in nature but by blowing them up to massive proportions it brings attention to the decorative and wonderful shapes these objects create as a pattern. The experience you get from seeing them close up to then seeing them across the road creates a full Christmas feel.”
